Personal Message from Elma

I would like to thank everyone for your continual support and love during my 7years at 7de Laan.  It's been an amazing time of my life which I will treasure for ever.

I decided to leave 7de Laan because it was time for me to take on new challenges, to learn and to grow as a person and actress. And what an interesting time it's been since I left in June 2007.  I went for a LOT of auditions and started to explore the different sides and 'characters' in myself.  You have to re-invent yourself everyday and change your look and voice and attitude with every audition.  I do the auditions with my whole heart, and then forget about it, because you will definitely lose all faith in your acting abilities if you don't get all the parts you so desperately want!Luckily I didn't have to wait too long for a new 'role'.

I took the idea of 'change' to the limits and tried a darker, brown look for my 'growing!' hair.(See the details of my wonderful hairdresser, Terenzo, at the 'Link'-section on my website.)  Some like it, some don't, but I want to see how the industry reacts to my new look.  A change is as good as a holiday, but watch this space, I might just decide to surprise you again…

Being a presenter on ONTBYTSAKE on KykNET gives me the opportunity to see our beautiful country and develop  new skills as an actress.  The only difference is that I am 'playing' myself now, and not a character.  I love the unpredictability of the studio interviews, not knowing what is going to happen next.  It makes the adrinalin flows and keeps every recording interesting.

Sitting in studio with an earpiece in your ear, listening to 5 people speaking at once, while doing an interview and talking to the viewers, are just a few of the new and exciting things that I have to get used to as a presenter.  Never a dull moment!  Not to mention the 'elements' - wind and rain and unforseen circumstances which I have to cope with when on the field.  And this sudden rain and cold weather is something  to get used to!

I still hope to do theatre and television series AND MOVIES(!) in the near future, and I even co-directed a show for KKNK, with 3 talented singers, Nedine Blom, Catherine Jones and Monica Burger.  They really sing like angels and combine it with a bit of acting while sharing their lives with the audience.  The show is called Slotte en Grendels.

Some of you might have heard that there is a new reality show called 'Boer soek 'n vrou' on its way.  Yes!  You heard right, I will be helping some lonely 'boere' to find the love of their lives.  So, if you know of any single farmers out there who find it difficult to meet people, make them fill in the application form in LANDBOU WEEKBLAD or go to www.kyknet.co.za.  It's going to be a kind show, no sensation, and no public voting, so you won't be made fun of.  Come on, try it!!!

I take every challenge that comes my way and I face my fears constantly- something I will recommend to anyone who wants to experience life to the fullest.  Don't be scared, you only way you will get wisdom, is to be willing to make mistakes.

2008 is flying, and I hope you realise how precious time is!  Enjoy every moment.

Love
Elma

Elma's Biography

Elma Postma has become well-known throughout South Africa as popular star in the television series '7de Laan', starring as Dezi waitress turned businesswoman after catching the eye of a local businessman and marrying him in the series, the role of a loyal friend and wife, and although appearing soft and feminine, she has an obstinate streak and strong convictions...
But after 7 years on the soap, Elma decided to take a leap of faith and she made a career move. She left 7de Laan and now 'stars as co-presenter on Kyknet's ontbytsake (Sat 7:30, Mo, Wed, Friday, 6:00) as well as Boer soek 'n Vrou(broadcast from end of September - details to follow).
Elma grabbed this opportunity with both hands. She travels through South Africa, visiting small businesses and beautiful sights, and she also presents in studio with anchor-presenter and economist Dawie Roodt.
Apart from 7de Laan and Ontbytsake, Elma is also working on a few other projects including plans for theatre in 2008. Her theatre productions since 2004 include leading roles in three very successful productions: HARTSONDES in 2004, directed by award-winning director Henry Mylne, a translation of the drama 'Crimes of the Heart' by Beth Henley, that was nominated for the 'Harry'-prize, most popular show on the KKNK festival; HAAKS in 2005, a two-hander, with veteran Chris Vorster, directed by Pierre van Pletzen, that won 2nd prize in category for new plays, getting outstanding reviews for their strong performances; MONSTERS in 2006, also directed by Pierre van Pletzen where she played a dark, sexy character in this black comedy. Each production was a showcase of just how talented and unpredictable this actress is.
Apart from her acting talents Elma is a regular MC and guest speaker at public functions. She also plays a few music instruments when she's not acting, including the cello.
Who knows what the future will bring.
